A cam belt, also called a timing belt is an extremely important part of your engine. It Manufacturers have their own recommendations as to when it should be replaced and in most cases this is between 40,000 and 60,000 miles. Most manufacturers will only also honour a warranty if it has been changed according to their schedule.
The failure of the cam belt / timing belt in your vehicle can be catastrophic and cause serious engine damage. The worst case scenario might mean you need a new engine.
If a cam belt snaps or breaks your engine will stop immediately as it is connected to camshaft and crankshaft which all link together with the pistons in the vehicle's engine. Never try and extend the life of your cam belt - it could cost you a lot of money.
